Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that they are trying to provide relief to people as much as possible, despite the challenges posed by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Commenting on the current economic debacle, he told reporters that the pandemic, increase in fuel prices and Russia-Ukraine war were external factors that impacted the crisis.

“However, we will try our level best to resolve the current crisis situation locally,” he stressed.

“People should continue to place their trust on this government. The dollar has been floating ever since and we have temporarily stopped it and we were compelled to do so as we couldn’t stop it any further,” he added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Russia’s totally unnecessary invasion of Ukraine is causing raised oil and wheat prices worldwide and decreased tourism from both countries. It certainly doesn’t help. However this invasion is 2 weeks old. Sri Lanka’s dollar crisis is due to massive loans in the last 13 years taken during your family reign where a lot of giant commissions and bribes were earned by various individuals.
