Channa Jayasumana says 10 MPs with dual citizenship should resign
Parliamentarian Prof. Channa Jayasumana said there are around ten MPs with dual citizenship and they should resign now with the enactment of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution.
He said the latest amendment cleared by Parliament bars dual citizens from becoming parliamentarians.
“If these MPs honour the Constitution, they should quit ,” he said. (Kelum Bandara)

They don't need to quit. With the passing of the relevant amendment to the constitution, they automatically cease to hold office.

"World is under the fingertip" has been looked at in an ERA as a CIVILIZED APPROACH, so, making a CHEAPEST PROPAGANDA of those should quit holding DUAL CITIZENSHIP to SIT in the PARLIAMENT is an UNACCEPTABLE theory which is the reason that purely comes out of GRUDGE and those who are unable to compete or win RAJAPAKSAS in an election. If those who promote this cheapest propaganda should not go begging the international world for any financial, technical or other supports. In fact dual citizenship is a legal rights of the people of Sri Lanka which allows a person to have that rights through constitutional option, if any reason, it cannot be allowed, then the constitution should be changed to "no one can obtain DUAL CITIZENSHIP within Sri Lanka.

I totally agree. If you want serve your country, first you have to be a citizen of that country. Look at Basil, he disappears from the scene when the country is facing difficulties. We want honest and sincere people who can serve our country.

Agree that they cannot hold dual nationalities and be in parliament anymore. Also, there should be some further conditions to be considered to any office - 1. Maximum age limit of 60 years: 2. No one with any criminal charges or convictions can be nominated: 3. Pension benefits should be like for the rest of the people in the country, not after completion of 5 years; 4. No arbitrary pay increases: 5. No more unnecessary security (costing billions) as we are not in a war situation.

Although 22A provides certain concessions it is not sufficient. Electing a Presidential by MP is highly questionable and in contradiction to " Janapathy' title. Ranil's ascended should be limited to few months because he has no public mandate. These clauses have to be thoroughly assessed and named Ranil as Interim Presidential without giving constitutional powers to make structural changes. With 22A I believe, especially Dianna Gamage's election is now null and void as she a dual citizen of UK. She should relinquish all positions and leave.

I agree with the comment of KW. It is for the Speaker who entertained a man convicted for murder and still tolerate a Minister sentenced to jail to act since he is a high cost man.His whole family and clan too live on the country. Jayasumana who cannot use prefix PROFESSOR MUST NAME THEM FOR THE COUNTRY TO KNOW.

This amendment was supported by the very same MPs and they gloated at that time, giving Gota and his clan all the powers! Do these MPs have learn through trial and error method? Did we give our votes for these idiots last time? And we went around saying the Nation IS SAVED? What a set of donkeys are we-the voters? And we gloat that "We are are best" in front of mirror! A majority of these buggers, hold foreign passports and citizenship in many foreign lands. It is no big secret that for USD. 100,000/- a passport from various Caribbean islands could be purchased which gives them access to most countries worldwide including the US and the EU. That amount of money is pocket change for this lot after years of pilfering about. Besides, there is no proper mechanism to find out such information, as in this country information could be “hidden” easily for a few bucks here and there. I think the EC and his office also know this fact and this is how things work here. In most foreign countries like Singapore etc., holding dual citizenship automatically bars you from holding any high office in state enterprises and legislature. Only in this failed state, does everything happen out of standard. No wonder we are still here, wishing we are there. This place will never come up, no matter who comes into power or who runs for office; “system change or otherwise”.

Singapore has mandatory military service even. You can't compare to country where same party has won elections for 50 years to a proper democracy. If not ethnic Chinese you'll always be 2nd rate citizen there as well!

Prof. Channa Jayasumana is lying. There is no such thing as 10 dual citizens in parliament. Since Channa Jayasumana since is against citizens from other countries, it's about dual citizens start against him and other unnecessary persons like him in Sri Lanka. I don't know how he's still seen as capable scientist, as the oxygen he breathes is burden to the world, so sooner he stops breathing better the world will be!

Where do find evidence about that? Do you think the MPs have any real allegiance even to Sri Lanka? Most MPs obviously have greater allegiance to their family and wealth. Some MP more loyal to their district and voters than country. MP will allow Sri Lanka as a country to be worse off, if MP, their family and their wealth is better off. Eg. Rajapaksa, and Rajapakse families.
