Colombo Fort Magistrate was concerned over the lethargic investigations carried out by CID from November 2019 into a case in which a woman was alleged to have defrauded over Rs 130 million to businessmen promising to sell gold.

At the onset of the inquiry before Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage the aggrieved complainant’s Counsel M.M. Zuhair PC complained to the Magistrate that the court had ordered the CID to conduct investigations into three matters, to find out how and what happened to Rs. 80 million from Rs. 130million defrauded by the first suspect Shanthi Kanagasingham to the businessmen.

Secondly to recover all documents and other evidence used by the suspects to commit the fraud of over Rs. 130 million to the businessmen.

Thirdly the offense committed by a leading finance company through whom the suspect had financed three luxury vehicles that were bought from the cheated money.

The counsel said that the court had ordered the CID in 2019 to conduct proper investigations into the matter, but no proper investigations had conducted by the CID to this date.

The Magistrate ordered the CID to conduct proper investigations and to report to court on 4th April.2022.  (T. Farook Thajudeen)
