Colombo, December 14 (Daily Mirror)- In the wake of the controversy over the qualifications of certain politicians in the ruling party, Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih has shared his qualifications on social media.
He said in a post on Facebook that he believed it was essential to maintain trust and accountability in leadership and in that spirit, he was sharing his professional qualifications openly.
"I believe it is essential to maintain trust and accountability in leadership. In that spirit, I wish to share my professional qualifications openly. I hold an MBBS degree from Nishtar Medical College in Multan, Pakistan, completed in 1986, and a Diploma in Laryngo Otorhinology (DLO) from the University of Colombo. I am a registered medical practitioner with the Sri Lanka Medical Council and have practiced medicine for 38 years.

MBBS from Pakistan and a Diploma from Colombo University. But there are photos of his election campaign posters put up stating he was a "Specialist Doctor" are now circulating in social media. That too was a deceiving one.

Now it has been become fashionable to do this : do you need to check the qualifications of MP or school teachers/ university academics or other professionals : taxi drivers without any basic qualifications can became MPs in British parliament the brith place of democracy and yet today we are puzzled with this saga : the real nature of politics is if people have voted for someone with or without paper qualifications he or she should be able to do their jobs without any hindrance: I too agree that MPs should have some basic qualifications but it’s duty of EC to set those conditions not public :

The issue here is not whether they have qualifications or not - it's about misrepresenting to the public that you have qualifications you don't have.

This furore is not about professional / academic qualifications. It's about honesty and integrity. Most of the NPP MPs were openly critical about the qualifications and intergrity of members of other parties. They should not have lied about their qualifications. That's the issue here. Some NPP members too give the impression that they too are like those who were chased away. President whom I believe is genuinely interested in serving the people should quickly put his house in order before it spirals out of control.

no one wanted to know your qualifications on how you became a medical doctor. However the reason for your frantic rush to display these qualifications which you now display was to cover up your guilt for calling yourself a specialist [ medical ] doctor which you are not. Please explain

It has been reported that you do not have SLMC registration under Section 29 like other doctors. Instead, you hold SLMC registration under Section 15, which is a Temporary Registration granted to foreign-qualified doctors those days to work in hospitals under the supervision of registered doctors. Therefore, it is illegal for you to practise independently as a GP while holding only a temporary registration. Furthermore, your Act 16 registration was issued in 1998, which is 12 years after your graduation in 1986. You need to clarify how you obtained Section 15 registration in 1998 when a proper Act 16 evaluation process was in place at that time. Additionally, you have misled the public by presenting yourself as a Specialist Doctor when you are not. In a video interview with Hiru TV, you claimed to have worked as an ENT surgeon while DLO Diploma is not specialist qualification.

NNp failed again and again Saturday, 14 December 2024 02:02 PM
Hello NNP gave you this seat as 2nd or 3rd bench... Because 98% , Muslim voted for NNp . But finally what happened president decided to appoint only according to religion with fake qualifications ministers and finally it became to public eyes and now the NNp system becomes ABBlic. Even there are highly qualified Muslim candidates. But president do not do it..because there is something fishy somewhere in appointment of MPs. Having you this seat you can not do anything to the public. So useless to have this post better you also resign and we can teach in the up coming election. Specially Muslims are very disappointed with president moves.. he said we have appointed only qualified people and we have well educated people ....finally what happened.. as we know never happened in this history like this. Most of the government in the past gave chances for other region ministers also. But here it's considered purely for majority..but remember 98% Muslims voted already Mr. President

Whether we like or not, in today's complex geopolitical landscape, it is necessary to understand the undercurrents that shape SL's political realities. Consider the current power dynamics in India, the repercussions Sri Lanka faced when former President JR Jayewardene began to align more closely with the United States, and the significance of a newly elected leader's first international visit. These examples illustrate that, while Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation by definition, its independence is often "hmm". We're not alone here. Look at Cuba, Tibet, Ukraine, and Taiwan. It's not really our fault that we're a tiny island with a weak economy and not much of a say in world affairs or conflicts, though we lije to pretend otherwise. And does anyone here think the true perpetrators of a recent tragedy we experienced will be revealed? Sad, but that's the harsh reality we live in.

It’s common sense. Colombo 70 odd k Muslim voted for him other NPP members for Manape. Specialist Dr. Position was not for his medical jargon but for his Chandhe Capabilities. Same Doctorate position for Min Justice for his Chandhe Kapaweema. He got his doctorate from some blooming internet jargon. Great of him too. Now those Specialist Doctirate labels are now outdated. Former Speaker will soon get one. He lodged entry from Police Station. They will search for one and will have it soon to display it in the parliament. Dont worry. Hans ooops Dr. Will soon digitize all the padakkams locally and globally and cut down parliament time wastage. Only thing some Pandithayas are creating data issues and bugs creating bad sectors and need but more time in digitizing the setup.

Voters were under the impression that he is an ENT Specialist. That’s the message conveyed to the masses. The same message was conveyed through election propaganda leaflets as well. Present situation could have been avoided had the Dr’s education credentials declared earlier before election campaigns on time.

Voters will judge NPP only on their performance Saturday, 14 December 2024 03:42 PM
Lanka voters did not vote for the MBBS or Diploma. They voted for the NPP party because voters felt robbed and cheated by past rulers whose only qualification was spreading disunity among citizens. Do yo think some ex-MPS like Gommanpilla, Wimalaya, or MR or even Kaputa would have got a seat? We saw how they were all washed away from the political scene and never to come back. All this noise about qualifications is to humiliate voters for voting for NPP. But we learnt from past rulers.

That’s completely wrong. A diploma doesn’t make you a specialist. You don’t get a specialist salary, or specialist grade with a diploma. They have to work under a specialist. You have to have a MD from Post Graduate Institute to become a specialist.

I am not defending him but any Diploma after graduation is post graduate qualification and considered as a specialit qualification. If I may refer to DCH, it is Diploma in Child Health and those who hold that are showing off as specialits. DLO is a kind of specialisation in ENT. These are internationally recognised post graduate Diplomas

This person has been running around acting like he's a specialist doctor, but he really isn't. Before this turns into another political mess, the President needs to step in. It looks like there might be some tension brewing between the parties that teamed up to form the NPP. A lot of us voters want to see justice served for those past leaders who were all about murder and robbery. But the NPP needs to handle it the right way - no dirty hands, please. We’re not just going to follow blindly like some 'bayyas' out there. If the NPP drops the ball, voters might start looking for other options. That said, when you compare them to the previous self-serving 'pseudo-leaders,' I think most people would still pick the NPP over the others any day.

To all those who doesn't know what his speciality is let alone pronounce it, pls read carefully. Otorhinolaryngology is a Medical specialty that involves the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic medical disorders of the head and neck. Treatments may be surgical or non-surgical in nature. This term originates from: oto-, meaning ear, rhino-, meaning nose, laryngo-, meaning larynx, and -ology, meaning the study of. This field of study is also known as Otolaryngology. The medical practitioners of Otorhinolaryngology are known as Otorhinolaryngologists but may also be referred to as: Otolaryngologist ENT ENT Doctor ENT Surgeon ENT Specialist

Stop trying to gaslight the public with irrelevant medical terminology. You are not the only medical professional here. A non specialist doctor who works in an ENT unit is called Medical Officer ENT. To call himself an ENT Surgeon is to clearly mislead the public into believing that he is a consultant grade doctor. He has at some places just referred to himself as specialist doctor.

Whatever you say, the NPP is much better than the thieves we had for 76 years. A news story on the "Sri Lanka Guardian" news website) carries more information about the exaggerations in the Deputy Speaker's listing/statement about his qualifications. There are indeed issues to be addressed: for instance the avlidity of his medical registration to practice and his claim of specialist expertise. However, ex-Speaker Ranwala is in a class of his own with regard to qualificational duplicity: (1) He was never a student of any kind (neither degree nor diploma nor postgraduate) at the University of Moratuwa (or its predecessor organisation University of Sri Lanka - Katubedda Campus) (2) He has never been a postgraduate, doctoral student at Waseda University and has no PhD from the University.

With clergy, celebrities and established politicians being exposed about their underhand dealings, unsavoury conduct and hypocrisy, people want something to hang their hopes on - something that is righteous, just and honest, and many thought Anura/Harini led NPP would be the answer. Now with this "qualification" saga exposing some of their leading personalities to be hypocrites themselves , it's this losing hope or disillusionment that people can't take, witness or tolerate. That's why, in my view, this has developed into a drama of this proportion.
