Driver killed, six injured in Wellawaya bus accident

A man was killed and six others were injured after a bus carrying a group of ten employees of the Uma Oya project, skidded off the road and fell down a 10 metre precipice at Idda Ara in Wellawaya this morning.

Police said the bus which was running from Uma Oya towards Wellawaya met with the accident after carrying employees who had finished the night shift.

The bus driver and six other persons were injured in the accident and admitted to the Wellawaya Hospital.

The driver died on admission to the hospital.

The deceased was identified as 73 years old and a resident of Wellawaya. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

As we believe the driver might have been falling in to a sleep. However the road which is leading to Bandarawela from Wallawaya is somewhat sloppy and bendy. Therefore the drivers who are using this road should be more vigilant
