Former President Maithripala Sirisena must accept total fault for the Easter Sunday Attacks, MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said.

He added that the former President must face a more severe punishment, as compensation cannot do justice to the victims and the country.

Earlier today , the Supreme Court ordered Sirisena to pay compensation to the victims of the 2019 Easter bombings.

The verdict by a seven-member bench headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya came on a plea against Sirisena and other senior state officials for “failing to prevent” the April 2019 bombings “despite receiving intelligence ahead of the attack.” (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Since this is a major failure of the then Government where Ranil was the PM, Ranil too should be forced to pay compensation of Rs 100 million irrespective of the protection he has as the President. When this happened Ranil was not the President hence he cannot claim protection.

Read the judgement in full. Ranil is absolved in it. Clearly says he wasn't invited to security meetings and officials didn't share information with him.

SF is 100% correct and the then PM too must be included. At the same time SF must have some gratitude towards MS who gave SF a full pardon that paved the way for SF to return to parliament.
