Former PS member arrested for alleged sexual assault on teacher

A former member of the Horana Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a 39-year-old female teacher.

Police said the former PS member who came in a lorry, got out of it and hugged her and tried to sexually assault her while she was on her way to a shop in Moragahahena.

Then she escaped from the suspect's grip and ran towards a nearby house.

Police said the suspect was later arrested following a complaint made to the 119 emergency hotline.

The woman was later admitted to the Horana Hospital.

Investigations revealed that both the politician and the female teacher had a dispute over a financial matter.

The suspect was remanded till February 10 after being produced before the Horana Magistrate's Court. (DSB)
