Fuel distribution resumes at Kolonnawa, Muthurajawela terminals



The fuel distribution has recommenced at Kolonnawa and Muthurajawela terminals at 6 a.m. this morning, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.

He said the Police and armed forces would continue to assist in the operation. "Adequate fuel stocks are available in the country,” he said.

He also said that it had been noticed that some fuel stations had not placed orders anticipating the April price revision. 

He requested the fuel station operators place their orders accordingly and maintain the minimum stocks required.

Meanwhile, the soldiers of Security Forces (West) assisted in fuel distribution at Kolonnawa installation in the evening hours onwards yesterday, due to several TUs of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) went on strike all over the country.

The Army soldiers also provided security for fuel stations and fuel distribution bowsers, including distribution locations. 

“A contingent of Army personnel from 20 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 2 (v) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 144 Infantry Brigade of 14 Infantry Division and Quick Reaction Teams were assigned to this task and helped together with Police personnel in order to continue the fuel distribution at Kolonnawa installation,” he said.

Further, the Commander, 144 Infantry Brigade and respective Commanding Officers closely monitor and the Army's involvement in tasks as per the directions of the Commander Security Forces (West) and General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
