Gnanasara Thera skips Court; arrest warrant issued

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today issued a warrant for the arrest of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galaboda Atte Gnanasara Thera for not being present in Court in connection with a case filed against him.

Gnanasara Thera was not present before Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court No.3 over an allegation that he had allegedly made a hate speech tantamount to hurting the sentiments of Muslim community in the country. The court decided to issue an arrest warrant since defence failed to present a valid reason for Gnanasara Thera’s absence.

The Colombo Crime Division had filed a B report in Court in this regard.

Senior Counsel Ghazzali Hussain appeared for the aggrieved party.(Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

Poojaneeya, Vandaneeya aGnasara, knows only one language, and that is to insult others through his arrogance because of closeness to the former rulers in Sri Lanka. Now he is a different man it looks! However, it has become a trend for accused to keep away from courts, when summoned. Is it fear, arrogant disregard for law of the nation, inability to comprehend the seriousness of the offence or any other reason we could not fathom?

The law of land must be applied to all equally without any questions or without any discrimination based on language: race ; religion or region .all should be treated equally before laws ..no one is immune from any punishment and start this with MPs; and all community leaders and no one should be left without justice being done to them .. Justice must be done to all equally.poor and rich . I don't like anyone taking law into their hands

Monks manipulated politicians to deny Demilos their legitimate rights. Now judges, why don't you withdraw the warrant, after he arrives by himself to courts and then thereafter verbally warn like you do to your three year old son to be on time to courts and send him home with a piece of chocolate cake to give to Mahinda mama.

Because of characters like this in yellow, Buddhism is taking a beating with a negative image. True teachings of Buddhism are far from what these monks portray. Unfortunately, there is no law within the religious community to discipline and punish those who disgrace the yellow robe. When politicians began using monks for their own political benefits, the wavering few, used the opportunity to live a totally opposite culture to the one preached by Lord Buddha. Look around and there is enough proof of this.
