Govt must pay special attention to trilingual skills when appointing government officers

The government should pay special attention to trilingual skills when assigning and appointing government servants to the public sector, Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Additional Secretary (National Language) Anuradha Wijekoon said.

At an event organized for the implementation of the Official Language Policy in the multi-lingual Sri Lankan society, Wijekoon said if trilingual skills are not maintained, all categories of citizens will be inconvenienced when dealing with government institutions.

"We are talking about making this country corruption-free. For that, we should eliminate the instances where people have to depend on someone else for help.

"For that, necessary measures have been taken to make the heads and deputies of all government institutions chief officers who implement the official language.

"The Deputy Heads have been authorized through a circular to be appointed as intervening officers for the implementation of the official language policy within the institutions," he added. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
