Govt. should seek expert's help to resolve current economic crisis: Wimal

The government should seek consultations from experts to find solutions to the current economic crisis, Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa said today.

Addressing an event organised by eleven political parties aligned to the government, he said these challenges cannot be overcome by being conceited and that there should be a definite plan for that.

"We need to take several measures to come out of this crisis situation. First of all, we need to obtain expert's assistance on this.

We cannot overcome these challenges by being conceited. We need to draft a plan and have dialogue with other countries to reschedule loans according to the plan.

Where is that discussion? The Central Bank Governor says he had sent nine letters during the past six months with proposals to come out of this crisis for which had received no reply. No time to meet the Finance Minister," he said.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena said the projects to carpet roads should be stopped and the money should be channeled to import medicines and fuel.

"Road carpeting means spending dollars," he said. Eleven political parties including the SLFP, National Freedom Front (NFF) and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya aligned to the government issued a new national statement today. (Ajith Siriwardana)
