Head-on collision kills three of same family

Three individuals of the same family were killed when a three-wheeler collided head-on with a tipper truck at Thulhiriya on the Colombo-Kurunegala road early this morning.

Police said the father (40), mother (39) and their son (13) were killed in the tragedy which occurred while they were returning home after attending a funeral in Galle.

The tipper-truck driver was arrested in connection with the accident. (Pushpakumara Mallawaarchchi)

three-wheelers should be banned from carrying passengers. allow small cars tax free for taxi service that can only be sold after 10-15 years in the open market.

Looking at the video footage clearly the topper was not only speeding, but also nearly off center leaving no room for the threewheeler to clear the path. These commercial drivers are over worked under heavy stress without any rest and always in a rush.

Tipper Truck drivers care a damn for smaller vehicles on the road because they know nothing would happen to them because of the height of their seats and heavy structure of the vehicle.

Ban these three wheels systematically. To start with remove them from major cities. They can be replaced with small cars could be given with low tax

Reckless, drivers without respect to passengers, pedestrians or motorist for that matter being given licence not to drive but to kill. Strict checking has to be done to at least reduce these accidents.
