Housemaid arrested for stealing pilot’s luggage

Katunayaka, October 29 (Daily Mirror) - A 45-year-old Sri Lanka housemaid was arrested by airport police for stealing the luggage of a Colombian pilot.

The stolen baggage belonged to a 40-year-old Colombian pilot. The housemaid, a resident of Hunupitiya, Wattala, arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport from Abu Dhabi at 8:38 a.m. on an Etihad Airways flight.

After landing at airport, the pilot and airline staff exited the plane after all the passengers had disembarked. When they collected their luggage and prepared to leave the airport, the pilot discovered that his bag was missing.

The incident was reported to the Etihad Airlines manager, and airport security officers reviewed CCTV footage. The cameras had captured a woman, who was among the first to disembark, taking the pilot’s luggage, moving to another area of the airport, and hiding the bag in a trolley carrying her own luggage.

Further inspection of the camera footage showed the woman hurriedly leaving the airport and getting into a three-wheeler.

Etihad Airlines officials reported the incident to the Katunayake Airport Police, who then proceeded to the housemaid's residence in Hunupitiya, Wattala, where she was arrested with the stolen bag.

The arrested housemaid and the stolen luggage were produced before the Negombo Magistrate's Court.

has the crime rate increased? in the past when we had an opposition with over 30 years experience of criticizing the govts in power. by now they will be screaming that crime rates have gone up for an incident of this nature. Now that team is ìn govt so country is quiet

A Sri Lankan young housemaid travelling to UAE who sat next to me in the plane stole my ring while I was sleeping in the flight. By the time I realized that my ring was missing the housemaid had already got off at Dubai airport and the captain of the plane ( Sri Lankan Airlines) said that he was unable to help me to recover my ring . This happened thirty one years ago in 1993. That is why I have no sympathy when I read occasionally in the papers of Sri Lankan maids getting physically beaten up in homes where they work in the middle east.

Now it's worse, we have nexuses operating on flights that steal stuff from your hand luggage while you are sleeping on red eye flights. By the time you've realised it its too late. Also you have people at airports who would steal stuff from your bag while it's being loaded or unloaded. Always lock your cabin luggage and also have it wrapped with cling film. then again this happens all over the world.

Just because one does it, doesn’t mean everyone does. Just because it was a housemaid, doesn’t mean they always steal. It happened 30 years ago. And you still haven’t got over it. Guess who is materialistic

Since this housemaid has returned to Sri Lanka the reason in taking a member of the crew's luggage would have been to continue her occupation as housemaid in the Prison!!!!!

Probably the pilots bag had a GPS tracking device implanted. BTW if you are a regular traveler it is always better to implant a GPS tracking device to your luggage. Regarding the hand luggage it is better to use a lock so that people cannot open in a hurry.
