President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he is aware that not many in the political circles are fond of him personally. The President made these remarks addressing the 36th Annual Conference of the Organization of Professional Associations (OPA) of Sri Lanka at Kingsbury, Colombo.
Wickremesinghe said that he had to consider coming out of semi-retirement, because he knew he could turn the country around and stabilize the economy.
"Despite all the criticisms I accepted the job. Then there was a chance of turning the economy around much faster. "I must thank everyone in the political system who rallied around, not because they like me -- I don't think there are very many who personally like me. But certainly they knew the job had to be done," the President said.
President Wickremesinghe also underscored the necessity of building on this initial success, highlighting the importance of constructive solutions over political distractions. (Kalani Kumarasinghe)

MR President shouldn't worry too much who likes and dislikes if few tough steps to be taken get the house in order stop all corruption bribery all elegal activities no using or abusing power proper judicial system to get rid of bad apples get the inflation cost of living down look after the majority of middle and poor class families MR President is the last living who can make a difference for this nation's prosperity great politicians great teams of professionals will provid hope for the future

It was a big mistake of yours not to let the young guard, like Dr Harsha de Silva, come to power in the UNP. You desperately wanted to be elected President and failed miserably. If you and the other aging UNPers had resigned then Gota would never have been elected and the economy would never have collapsed. Now it's too late for you to save the economy. What you have done so far in this direction only looks superficially successful. But you're just shifting the debt from one side to the other and begging for new loans worldwide that are being misused economically. So you increase the debt, which you don't have to pay back, but the following generations have to take responsibility for it. So far there has been no relief for the citizens, on the contrary, more and more people have to suffer. You have failed in your efforts to stabilize the economy. Resign, retire honorably and let young, non-corrupt and well-qualified politicians take the helm.

A politician does not have to be loved or liked, but he should be respected by the people as a personality with undoubted character !!! Exactly that, however, is their primary problem!!! One doubts the integrity of her personality, which for many years has combined opportunistic politics with autocratic behavior at the expense of the majority of the country's citizens !!! One distrusts their political promises and statements (because one knows them!) and does not believe in a socially just and fair society that is open to all people! One knows that the so necessary, real political change with them and the parliamentarians who support them is not possible is !
