JKH says finalizing arrangements with casino operators for Cinnamon Life

John Keells Group today said it will be looking for gaming operators to operate at its flagship project ‘Cinnamon Life’ with the government formalizing the process of issuing licences and monitoring of casino operations in Sri Lanka.

“With the regularising of gaming, the Group will proceed with finalising
arrangements with prospective gaming, operators to operate at ‘Cinnamon Life’,” JKH Chairman Krishan Balendra said.

In August 2022, the government gazetted regulations under the Casino Business
(Regulation) Act of 2010 to formalise the process of issuing of licences and monitoring of operations for casinos in Sri Lanka.

Balendra said similar to the experience with Integratedresorts in other Asian countries, ‘Cinnamon Life’ has the potential to transform Colombo as a destination for leisure and
entertainment and lead to significant foreign exchange earnings for the country

It is irono thay the incumbent president when he was opposition leader fought tooth and nail to terminate an agreement entered into by the former regime to operate casinos exclusively for foreigners citing various reasons, had now become a champion to allow casinas even for locals!
