J’pura Uni commenced first intake for 2023



The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) today admitted a total of 1,030 students who sat for the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination in 2021, making it the first university intake in the country among all other university faculties.

While addressing the event, the Dean of Faculty, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, said this is the first faculty among the state universities in Sri Lanka to commence the academic year for 2023.

A total number of 1,030 students were admitted today, including 828 under the normal intake, 165 under the direct intake, and 45 students who missed the batch during the past year. He said neary 4,000 students are currently studying at the university.

He also said additional information has been conveyed to students via the official website and email.

The official reception ceremony of the new students, organized by the faculty held today followed by the selection tests for general courses and other programs.

Prof. Heenkenda said the faculty is hoping to finish the first semester before the New Year in April. The students will come to the university after two weeks to face the first semester examinations.

As a result, the total number of courses offered by the FHSS for 2023 has been increased to 35, encompassing a wide array of skills required by the labour market. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
