While the government admits that utility prices are high, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said that concessions will be granted after reviews.

"We admit that times are tough. But we have proposed to reduce the electricity consumption charges by 27%. We can assure that further concessions will be granted by January next year," the Minister said in Nawalapitiya yesterday.

Meanwhile, the minister said that social media platforms which support Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka are propagating false rumours about fuel shortages.

"The news on the decision to suspend offering fuel on credit had been misreported that there was a shortage of 95 octane fuel," he said.

Wijesekera said that such incidents reiterate the need for stronger media laws in Sri Lanka.
