Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera today advised taking legal action against the fuel station owners who failed to maintain the minimum stocks of fuel within the sheds.

The decision was announced during a progress review meeting held yesterday with the officials of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL).

During the discussion, it was brought to light that only 423 out of 1,050 filling stations that have contracted with the CPC were maintaining minimum stocks last week.

The fuel import plan for the next 18 months, payments made for the fuel freight tankers, fuel distribution activities in line with the fuel quota and the recent infrastructure development of the petroleum storage terminal were also taken up for discussion. (Chatuanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Make it mandatory for All SLTB bus depots to have a retail Petrol Shed that serves the public. Likewise look at Sathosa outlets also maintaining retail fuel outlets for both fossil and electric vehicles. This way govt will have some level of distribution when the greedy private sector tries to show their arrogance. have strict legal action taken if the employees and managers steal.

Get the deep pocket private conglomerates JKH, LOLC, Hayleys, Goodhope etc to invest 20% each raise dollar loans and set up a Private oil refinery and earn with more bunkering services for the ships. Govt can give a buy back guarnatee if conditions change. Then give more fuel shed licenses to private sector listed companies to whom this private entity will supply and who will not do unethical practices under SEC CSE guidelines. Create options and more competition for these bullys.

You have to give them 3 days transition period to sell the old stocks .... in that way there won't be ant shortage. This applies even when the price goes up....

Mr. Minister, May I ask seek one simple question, answer thereto!!? Understand you have Minimum Stock Level (MSL) for each and every station/centre?? Implied answer is ‘YES’, which hereinbefore has been confirmed. WHY, then no "FOLLOW THRUOUGH PROCEDURES"!!!??? NO Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) in the EVENT of DISFUNCTION!!! If this condition was not in the original contract signed by the shed owners, then even if the minister stands on his head this cannot be done. By the way, did the Minister include this clause when the agreement with the Chinese was signed recently?
