More cabinet ministers likely to be appointed this month: SB

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP S.B. Dissanayake said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe would appoint several cabinet ministers including himself soon.

He told a television talk show that at least nine more cabinet ministers will probably be appointed by this month.

He said that it is imperative for the president to appoint a good cabinet.

The MP said that Gamini Lokuge, Janaka Bandara Thennakoon, Johnston Fernando, S. M. Chandrasena, C.B. Rathnayaka, Rohitha Abeygunawardena and Sarath Weerasekera were among the list of names that have been proposed to the President. Pavithra Wanniarachchi's name was also among the list and that she was appointed earlier as a cabinet minister.

When asked whether former minister Namal Rajapaksa's name was also proposed, the MP said the latter's name is not among the list. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Sarath Weerasekara is a vocal opponent of the 13th amendment. Also, he does not believe in national reconciliations efforts proposed by UN. If RW appoints him as a cabinet minister then RW is also a (non-vocal opponent) of national reconciliation and 13th amendment. Can you trust a southern politician to resolve these issues?

No more ministers are required at this crucial juncture. Instead appoint able secretaries to the ministries to handle the situation. Those days we had eminent visionary people as permeant secretaries in these institutions. They were not appointed by the president.

The government doesn't have money to go ahead to have the election but they have money to have more ministers. Why can't the existing ministers take over those ministries as well in addition to their own ministries.
