Nigerian gets death sentence and 7 other foreigners jailed to 10 years

The Colombo High Court sentenced a Nigerian national to death over possession of 1.74 kgs of Cocaine while seven other foreigners who were arrested in 2020 with 45.6 kgs of ICE narcotic drugs (methamphetamine crystals) were sentenced to ten years imprisonment each, police said.

They said the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) had arrested two Iranians and five Pakistan nationals on April 10, 2020, for possession and trafficking of over 45 kgs of ICE narcotic drugs. Indictments had been filed against the suspects last year and they were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in June 26 by the Colombo High Court.

In addition, a Nigerian national arrested on May 27, 2016, by the PNB while in possession of 1.74 kgs of Cocaine was sentenced to death last Friday by the Colombo High Court.
