There won’t be any national government if those who are responsible for the country’s crisis do not come out with confessions and change themselves, a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP said today.
“We hear about a move to form a national government. It would not happen if those who are responsible for the country's economic crisis do not come out with confessions and changed themselves. Also, action should be taken against corruption, including alleged fraudulent deals with regard to claiming damages for the X-Press Pearl ship which went down within Sri Lankan waters,” MP Kabir Hashim told a media briefing.
Earlier SJB MPs Eran Wickramaratne and Harsha de Silva, who also participated in the press conference, questioned as to what had become of the probe which Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapaksha had requested the IGP to conduct into the crediting of US $ 250 million to a certain bank account by a party involved in deliberations on claiming damages for the distruction caused the ship X-Pess Pearl.
“We are also concerned about the developments with regard to limiting the liability to less than one billion dollars despite the real damages being said to be between 06 to 10 billion US dollars,” he said.
Dr. de Silva questioned the progress of the investigations carried out into the allegation by the Justice Minister and the request he had made from the IGP.
“The Minister had requested the IGP to carryout an investigation some time ago. One wonders what had become of this investigation,” MP de Silva said. (Yohan Perera)
