October 1-24 tourist arrivals top 31,000

The tourist arrivals for the first 24 days of October have reached 31,828, bringing the total number of international visitors to the country to 558,068 for the year so far.

The latest provisional data shared by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority showed an improvement in the weekly arrivals for the month of October.

The average daily arrival rate for the month is 1,326.

India, the Russian Federation and United Kingdom were the top three tourist traffic generators during the October 01-24 period, accounting for 20 percent, 15 percent and 10 percent of the total arrivals, respectively.
The improvement in arrivals from the Russian market is due to Aeroflot resuming operations to Sri Lanka.

Aeroflot said 75 percent of the tickets to Sri Lanka have already been booked from the November 2022 to March 2023 period.

Edelweiss, Air France, Royal Dutch Airlines and Azur Air will also start flying to Colombo again from the first week of November, Tourism Minister Harin Fernando shared in an update last week. The tourist arrivals to the country have averaged 35,000 per month from May to September 2022.

The month of March recorded the highest tourist arrival (106,500), while September saw the lowest tourist influx (29,802) for the year so far.

What Sri Lanka needs at this juncture is not the number but tourists who spend and increase the coffers of the govt. foreign currency purse. Certain segments of tourists could be categorized as thosai kade eaters and the need of the hour is foreign currency brought to this country. So ascertain this information from the declaration made by the foreigners when disembarking at the Airport which will give an idea that at least 50 percent is spent with many establishments waiting hawk eyed to get this business which has been starved since the 2019 Easter Sunday disaster

It's these categorization and segregation that has got your country in this mess. Ur economy reflects the accounts book of a Thosai Kade right now, but u still think race is a solution to your problems. U r one of those old farts in every event that think they have seen it all but gets smacked in the face by some one for talking nonsense. @Jason you are a nincompoop who thinks I am in a foreign land which is wrong. Your brain has gone bonkers as you cannot compare the accounts book of this country with a Thosai Kade as the country is resilient with correct professionals who are now at the helm and driving this country to face the future years. Only we need some time to bounce back and in the future years you will have to eat your nasty words of this country. I sympathize with your lack of knowledge of this country as it seems you are a half baked citizen of a foreign country.
