Pregnant woman, husband die in accident in Buttala
A 32-year old pregnant mother and her husband had died after a speeding van knocked them at Burutha Junction in Buttala on the Buttala-Wellawaya Road this evening.
Police said the pregnant woman and her 37-year old husband were walking on the side of the road when the van hit them.
The couple was seriously injured in the accident and died on admission to Buttala Hospital.
The deceased were residing in a rented out house in Kudaoya, Buttala.
Police said the driver of the van fled after the accident. However, he was later arrested while hiding.
Investigation revealed that the driver's left leg was amputated and he was living with a prosthetic leg. (DSB)
