Price of bread reduced by Rs.10: Bakery Owners

The price of a 450-gram loaf of bread will be reduced by Rs. 10 with effect from midnight today, the All Island Bakery Owners' Association announced.

Addressing the media, ACBOA President N.K. Jayawardena said that the decision was taken considering the price reduction of flour from the main wheat flour importing companies (Prima Ceylon (Pvt) Limited and Serendib Flour Mills (Pvt) Ltd).

"The price of a kilo of wheat was reduced by Rs. 15," he said.

Accordingly, the price of a 450g loaf of bread will be reduced by Rs. 10 according to the current selling price.

However, there will be no price reduction for other bakery items, Jayawardena said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Cannot trust the bakery mafia. Too much the bread is under weight everywhere. Better not to buy until weight gets back to 450g, otherwise getting ripped off.

The demand for bread has also dropped which is a good sign. The price increase has some positives as well. Sam is right, where do you find 450 grams loaf? But we complain about eggs imported from India.
