Ravinatha Aryasinha assumes duties as Executive Director of LKI

Ravinatha Aryasinha has assumed duties as the Executive Director of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute (LKI) of International Relations and Strategic Studies.

He was appointed by Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry in his capacity as the Chairman of the Board of Management of the Lakshman Kadirgamar
Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies.

Previously an Officer of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service, he was the Foreign Secretary of Sri Lanka, and has also served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, and as Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Peradeniya and a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from the University of Colombo. He was a ‘Hurst Fellow’ in International Relations at the School of International Service (SIS), American University, Washington DC, USA.

He is a Ph.D. Candidate in International Relations at the University of Colombo.

Kadirgamar was a talented person, yet he tried very hard to become the Secretary General of the Commonwealth and failed. Why ? Even though English is spoken in nearly twenty countries, only the British English Pronunciation and the North American English pronunciation are accepted as NORMAL ENGLISH PRONUNCIATIONS. Trinity College educated Kadirgamar speaking good English but with Sri Lankan accent was NOT CONSIDERED AS GOOD ENGLISH BY THE BRITISH ESTABLISHMENT.

When I saw this news item, I was not surprised to see him in this position, or any other, for that matter, for his own survival. I remember Ravinatha defying the late Lakshman Kadiragmar’s transfer order for him to serve in Indonesia and taking the issue to the courts. Now he is worshipping the statue of the late LK. There are many important stories from his career, but I would just like to mention the unique ones. Ravinatha was instrumental in getting Sri Lanka to co-sponsor the famous/infamous Resolution in Geneva; however, he sided with the President at the time and recalled the Sri Lankan PRUN in Geneva. He also swiftly tried to get world recognition for the 52-day government without success. He was also behind the recall of the High Commissioner from London to post one of his power angels, for whom he spent government funds to the tune of more than US $70,000 for cosmetic surgery in the US. During Ravinath's time in the foreign ministry, he was part of the routing channel for Central Bank funds that were transferred to Namal-Cabraal's train dance party in New York. This was an illegal transfer of funds from CB.
