Resolution tabled urging Samanlal Fernando to resign as Moratuwa Mayor

The opposition members of the Moratuwa Municipal Council today tabled a resolution urging Mayor Samanlal Fernando to resign from his position.

Moratuwa Municipal Council member Lihini Fernando said the resolution was tabled against the mayor as he caused disrepute to the citizens of Moratuwa.

Seven opposition members of the council have signed a petition and tabled at the council meeting held today.

The opposition members claimed that Samanlal Fernando is no longer suitable to hold the position as the first citizen of the Moratuwa.

The councilors stated that the mayor was identified as a main suspect who gathered around 400 employees of the council on May 9 and attacked protesters at the MainaGoGama and GotaGoGama in which led violence incidents across the country.

They also claimed the mayor is currently in remand custody over the attack of protesters at Galle Face Green and also has been named as a suspect in a number of cases by court.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Not in Shiri Lankan politics. Been a illicit brewer, chain snatcher, rapist, and a stogies are some of the main qualifications to get the nomination for any election. It is time for voters to react.
