SJB will join final battle to remove corrupt rulers on August 9: SF
SJB MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka today said he and his party will join in the final battle to remove corrupt rulers from power on August 9, 2022.
Speaking during the emergency debate in the House, Field Marshal Fonseka said incumbent Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene might have to become the President of this country after August 9, 2022.
“ If the current President thinks he can suppress any uprising the way they did in 1988/89, he is mistaken. The world and the protesters are much more developed now. Also the President should know that more than 95% of the security forces and the police are with the protesting masses. Security forces and the police also should not follow orders and attack the protesters,” he said.
“It will only be possible to form a new government by bringing a new front comprising non corrupted persons in the opposition and in the government. I don’t mean that the new government after the struggle would be an SJB-led one,” he added.
“One has to understand that collateral damage takes place during an uprising. It should also be understood that the youth who took over state-owned buildings did so on behalf of the people. They wanted the give people something more. Therefore one should not shout about damaging state-owned buildings,” he also said.
MP Fonseka said the arrest of a protester inside an aircraft cannot be condoned (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Mr. Fonseka, changing the government or organizing a mass protest now will be detrimental to the country. We can ill afford to lose another government while the IMF Negotiations are about to re-start. What we need is a coalition of all party -government to pull us out of this current quagmire. Basil is still the Kingpin of the current regime, unfortunately. RW has neither guts nor support inside and outside of the Parliament to implement anything on his own!

There is enough in this statement to indict him for treason, and attempt to restart terrorism under the guise of "restoring democracy." Sarath Fonseka once wore an army uniform and commanded the entire Sri Lankan army. During that time, he reportedly demanded strict discipline. So it is sad to see him doing the work of insurgents and arsonists (hiding protesters who are innocent and naive) by making excuses for their looting, destruction, and other behavior. It is shocking to read comments that grossly insulted one of the honorable Generals of the SL Army Sarath Fonseka apparently unaware of his accomplishments for the country ! This shows their lack of education ! Fonseka is one of the few decent politicians in the country who respect and can assert the national interests of all ethnic groups ! He is also respected worldwide and can lead the IWF talks to success !
