SLC election battle begins; announcement for nominations likely this week
Calling for nominations for the election of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) members for the 2023-2025 period may commence this week, it is learnt.
A top official of Sri Lanka Cricket said an announcement would be issued in this regard soon.
“All preparations for the calling of nominations have been completed,” the official said.
The election of office bearers at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting of the SLC is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023.
It was reported earlier that nominations will be called for the election between February 15 and 28th.
At an Extraordinary General Meeting held on December 15, 2022, Sri Lanka Cricket appointed members to the Election Committee of the SLC under the prevailing Sports Law regulations and Constitution of the SLC to conduct the Election of Office Bearers of the SLC.
The committee comprises Justice Malani Gunaratne, a retired judge of the Court of Appeal, Justice Shiromi Perera, a retired judge of the High Court, and Dr D.M.R.B. Dissanayake, former Secretary to various Government Ministries.
It is learnt that the forthcoming election will be an interesting contest as new regulations restrict the period of office preventing longstanding members to contest again.
