SLMA defends move to allow armed Forces to vaccinate people

At a backdrop where the Government Medical Officers Association has criticised the move to allow armed Forces to vaccinate people, the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) said there was no issue in allowing military personnel to inoculate people.

SLMA President Dr. Padma Gunaratne said the need of the hour is to accelerate the vaccination drive in the country by means of all possible ways.

“Accordingly, the private sector, the military personnel and Government medical officers could be utilized for this endeavour,” she said.

“The authorities must take prompt measures to expedite the vaccination drive in the country, as it is the only remedy left to protect ourselves from the COVID-19,” Dr. Gunaratne pointed out.

The GMOA recently lambasted the decision taken by the Government to allow the three armed Forces personnel to carry out the vaccination drive at their hospitals claiming that it has created a lot of confusion. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
