SLMA urges public not to panic over recent health concerns

Irrespective of the recent unfortunate incidents involving the quality of medicines, the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) urged the people not to be carried away by such incidents and thereby lose trust on the free healthcare services.

During a media conference held today (17), SLMA Chairman Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne acknowledged the challenges faced by the Sri Lankan health sector but emphasized that it would be unfair to judge the entire system based on isolated incidents.

He highlighted the importance of conducting proper investigations to determine if the incidents were linked to inferior quality drugs before drawing any conclusions.

Hence, Dr. Ariyaratne requested the public to continue seeking medical assistance from government hospitals.

"In this endeavour, the Government and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority have a pivotal role to play in ensuring that only the highest quality medicines are made available to the public," he stressed. (Shean Fernandopulle)

Be much more considerate towards sufferers of various ailments . It's our lives and not commission earners lives or their immediate family members lives. commission earners go abroad for treatments and general public seek treatment form local system.

Yes, do not panic as you say, when this happens to your child or to to someone in a politicians' family then they would care. Who even believes what the pot-mortem report would say, everything is a cover up in this hell. Hell would be more promising than living in Sri Lanka. Has the politicians ever cares about the country to care for our families?

SLMA is only interested in itself, and benefits to members. The respect towards it's doctor members has rightfully fallen. SLMA is like a proverbial fox in hen house, with feathers in it's mouth saying, no problem for it to remain in the future now it is full. The corrupt practices of doctors will continue, and maybe overseas doctor supervisors need to be managing matters rather than the no good old fellows here who are old to know how to do good anymore.

They get good money, and now President let the older ones keep doing their bad work for longer. Retirement age for specialist put up again, allowing for too old fellows to continue their malpractice. These corrupt lot will only go if forced out, they keep the honest from getting higher positions, or corrupt the honest before allowing them to get higher positions. There is no hope while management remains the same.
