SL’s aviation industry, airspace very secure: ICAO

Due to necessary measures taken to maintain Sri Lanka's aviation safety at a very high level, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) announced that Sri Lanka's aviation industry as well as its airspace are very secure.

This has been confirmed during the recent international review of aviation safety conducted by the ICAO.

This international audit was conducted by a group of qualified international aviation safety inspectors from May 8 to 18.

A full inquiry has been made into the Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority, Ministry of State Defence, State Intelligence Unit, Airport and Aviation Company Limited, Sri Lankan Airlines and foreign airlines operating air services with Sri Lanka regarding the steps and actions taken to maintain Sri Lanka's aviation safety according to international standards. Due to such audit queries, Sri Lanka will be ranked highly, internationally and regionally.

Therefore, foreign airlines will operate more flights to Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka's air zone will be encouraged to use foreign airlines more often. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama and T.K.G Kapila)
