Special examination to locate bullet in Agbo’s leg

The wound on the left leg of the elephant Agbo has not yet healed, and the leg will be subjected to a special examination today, Wildlife Health Director Dr. Tharaka Prasad said.

Following the special examination, the doctors will be able to identify the exact location of the bullet in the leg, he said.

In order to find out the behavior of Agbo, Veterinarian Dr. Prasad conducted his observations last evening. The left foot of the elephant is to be subjected to a special examination today, he said.

The tusker had been injured by a trap gun three months ago, and the elephant was getting weaker by the day.

Anuradhapura Zonal Wildlife Officers and Veterinarians are currently providing the required treatment to the elephant from time to time while providing its necessary food. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Make killing of elephant punishable by death penalty! Reward people who tip off villages and hunters who set up traps. Shift villages out of elephant territory. Stop clearing forests for agriculture

I am surprised and appalled to hear a special examination going to be carried out to see the location of the bullet. This is a non healing wound and a foreign body ( a bullet ) should have been excluded long time ago. The standards of veterinary medicine in SL is appalling.Take in foreign qualified lectures into the universities. If students found unfit they should be chucked out. Ignore politicians in education. Politicians have not even passed their O.levels.

NGOs who are against elephants taken in processions, not to be seen, exposing their bonafides and ultra-motives. They shall help the department to provide water to sanctuaries and take action to remove trap guns and explosives known as "Hakkapatas". They shall have a veterinarian brigade, too if they are so keen.
