Special meeting to discuss matters relating to petroleum sector

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera chaired a meeting of officials from the Power & Energy Ministry, Lanka IOC, and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to discuss matters pertaining to the petroleum sector.

Taking to Twitter, Wijesekera said matters such as a fuel pricing formula, establishing of new fuel stations, fuel distribution and expansion of the CPSTL tank farm facilities were taken up for discussion.

State Minister of Power and Energy D.V. Chanak was also present at the discussion.

Meanwhile, Minister Kanchana Wijesekera met the first two groups of owners and the management of filling stations that are to be made available to new suppliers.

Wijesekera stated in a Tweet that a total of 450 dealer-operated filling stations have been categorized into three separate groups of 150 each, in order to make them available for the new foreign fuel service operators.

Last month, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal to allow three foreign oil companies to commence their fuel distribution operations in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, retail licenses will be granted to China-based Sinopec, Australia-based United Petroleum, and US-based RM Parks Inc., in collaboration with London-based Shell PLC.

All 450 dealer-operated filling stations should be handed over to China Sinopec, that will do the job efficiently, benefitting both the countries China and Sri Lanka. Other two will play-around to destabilize the peaceful United Sri Lanka by sowing seed to DIVISION amongst the communities that live peacefully together, establishing good rapport.

Why not bring increased competition into this market? Why should everything go to the Chinese? What is the issue the company from Australia being given a stake? We need more players than less to make it service and price competitive, so long as reasonable scale could be ensured for each .

Let's hope the state employees serve the people of different ethnic groups efficietly and impartially so that Sri Lankan Identity could be the attitude inculcated in every citizen which no outside 3rd party could breach to saw division and separatism in our Island. This in response to Sinop 's whose fears cannot be completly ignored.
