Sri Lanka ranks 127 in World Happiness Index



Sri Lanka has been ranked 127 in the UN’s 2022 World Happiness Report, while Finland has been named as the world's happiest country.

Last year, Sri Lanka was ranked 129 out of 149 countries in the World Happiness Report.

In the index that ranked Afghanistan as the unhappiest. Lebanon, which is facing an economic meltdown, fell to second from last on the index of 146 countries, just below Zimbabwe.

India is ranked at a lowly 136, even below Pakistan, which is at 121, on the list. Nepal occupies the 84th place, Bangladesh is at 94 and Pakistan 121. There are no Asian countries in the top 20.

The latest list was completed before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"This (index) presents a stark reminder of the material and immaterial damage that war does to its many victims," co-author Jan-Emmanuel De Neve said.

The World Happiness Report, now in its 10th year, is based on people's own assessment of their happiness, as well as economic and social data.
