US$100mn from India for roof top solars on govt. buildings

ndia had extended their Credit Line to another US$ 100 million for roof top solar on several government buildings, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.

The decision was announced during a progress review meeting held today at the Ministry.

The meeting was held berween the minister and officials from Indian High Commission, Ceylon Electrivity Board (CEB) and Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) of Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, rooftop solar system will be used to equip Schools, Universities, Educational institutes, Hospitals, District and Divisional Secretariat’s, government buildings and places of worship. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

We don’t want the so called “credit line” help from India. Two things to mention, first these Sri Lankan ministers and officials would have been definitely bribed by the Indians prior to this meeting we see in the picture and secondly we must not forget that Indian made products are of poor quality and not safe at all. Recall the latest news of Indian made “copied” medicines that has killed so many babies in Africa. We will never know how many deaths in Sri Lanka over the last 40 years caused by the Indian made “faulty medicines” which our corrupt doctors enthusiastically prescribe to all Sri Lankans.

Indian made products are of poor quality? Atleast india makes something.. What do you guys make?? Perhaps a lot of things that you are using right now.. ur phone, car or 2 wheeler , refined crude that is petrol or diesel in vehicles.. bus or train u travel in..all could be india made. If you are so focussed on quality, see if you can impart some good quality traits in your policymakers..

It’s better to use that money to feed the crow’s landing on the rooftops. All the funds will be misused and rorted by the people in charge of approving the contract to install them. They will never maintain them in good working order and will deteriorate unusable in no time.

I see a lot of negativity in the comments by folks about India. Most of it is just crap and more crap. My suggestion to the folks who are giving advice is for them to go out and get alternate sources of help. Fact of the matter is that Sri Lanka is in deep mess of its own and needs to appreciate any well intended help it can get from anywhere, including China! But 1st, wake up and smell the coffee!

India has a very very poor population, yet they have come forward to help Sri Lanka and for that we ought to be grateful and thankful to them. If not for the Indian medicines, can we afford to buy "rich country" products like from UK, Germany, to name a few. We need to learn to be grateful and appreciative.

India has a very very poor population you say.. IMF reports indicate that next 4 to 5 yrs India will surpass your per capita income as well. Don't think u r at some 40000 usd level n india at 1000 usd. You guys are at 3600 n india at 2550. But u guys will degrow for.next 2 to 3 yrs n then stabilize.. india will grow upwards of 6.5%.. You guys don't have technology of your own. Sri Lanka essentially is 1 sector dependent.. Tourism. That's it . Indias challenge is - energy security and defence spending. India is expected to solve it over coming decade. Perhaps.. you could read a little.more.

Udugama speaks of India out of hatred or jealousy. Firstly you cannot compare SL with India, secondly, every house in all the villages in India is equipped with toilets. He needs to get updated. If not all most of the buses, trucks and tippers plying the roads in SL are Indian. When SL was starving, it was India who came to rescue us. Go check the Mahavamsa, you are Indian too.
