General Denis Perera passes away



Former Army Commander Denis Perera passed away this morning in Colombo at the age of 83, sources said.

General Perera served as Army Commander from 1977 to 1981. He was later appointed Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Australia – with accreditation to New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. General Perera was the Chairman (non-executive) of the Securities & Exchange Commission, Ceylon Tobacco Company, Blackwood Hodge Engineering and GTE Directories Lanka.

He was also the Chancellor of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.

The last rites of the late General Perera with full military honours will be held on 14 August 2013 at 1630 hours at the General Cemetery, Borella.
