Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Chaminda Wijesiri confronted Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane who ordered him to raise his supplementary question directly instead of elaborating on the subject matter.
  “Hon. MP, please ask your question without making a speech!” the Speaker said.
 Visibly annoyed by the Speaker’s order, Mr. Wijesiri said, “I know you   get perturbed when I raise questions and discriminate me,”
This evoked a response from the Speaker. Finally, Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando   intervened and stressed the need to stick to the time limit assigned for raising oral questions.
“We cannot take more than five minutes for it. You better ask the leader of your party about the agreement reached at the party leaders ‘meeting in this regard,” Mr. Fernando said.
 
Mr. Wijesiri replied that he would agree with Mr. Fernando if the agreement was implemented even-handedly.
