Colombo inflation eases to 4% in August



Inflation in the Colombo district as measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) decelerated to 4 percent in August on year-on-year (YoY) basis, from 6.3 percent in July, the Department of Census and Statistics said.

The food inflation in August was recoded at -4.8 percent compared to -1.4 percent, while the non-food inflation decelerated to 8.7 percent from 10.5 percent in July.

The Central Bank’s preferred inflation band remains at 4-6 percent.

Sri Lanka’s inflation peaked at almost 70 percent in September, 2022.
