SL keen to work with China to boost cooperation in infrastructure and tourism

The government yesterday expressed its willingness to work with the world’s largest economy, China, to expand cooperation in fields such as infrastructure and tourism.

The interest was expressed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the conversation, as reported by Xinhua, President Rajapaksa had communicated Sri Lanka’s keenness in advancing major projects such as the Colombo Port City.

He had also added that his office is confident that such efforts would boost the economic and social development of the country

Meanwhile, President Jinping shared that China stands ready to work with the island nation to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and provide the required support to pave the way for Sri Lanka’s post-pandemic economic recovery and sustainable development.

Wait and see where we will end up. There is do doubt China is becoming world number economy soon.yet how far we would trust them . Look at human right violations ? Look at the interest rate ? Look the world now ? Can we anger India for the sake of China? Can we anger US for the sake China? Can we anger the west for the sake of China? Can we forget all what west has been doing for us? We have more than 1milion Sri Lankans in the west now .can we forget this ? How far we can trust china and how long?. We need a balance foreign policy . We do not need to anger anyone or any country.. India is our next door neighbour and we get 70%of our goods from India .. Our Indio- Lanka relationship is more important for the stability of our nation than Chinese one . So we have been careful..we shouldn't push India too far . Consequences will be more dangerous and long lasting. This govenment has no long term foreign policy. It does not have stable foreign policy. It wants to have quick money.

One of defect and short comings of this current leadership is that it does not trust experts advise. Sri Lanka has had a tradition of selecting highly qualified people through SLOA, SLAS, SLES and other high level examinations. As British do for all high profile examinations, it has been tradition in Sri Lankan politicians from Dudley Senanayake, to Chandhirka Bandaranayake to seek advice of their civil servants. In fact, JR, RP. Srimavo, and CKB all had some best brain powers behind them from civil servants and yet, this ruling family from MR to GR have been giving jobs for their relatives, friends, and colleagues without knowing their qualifications and skills. Many examples could be cited. But, they have taken this country into utter failures. They do not care about this. It is people who will pay the price for this political blunder.
