USD selling rate drops below Rs. 300 after 15 months

Colombo, Oct 02 (Daily Mirror) - The selling rate of the US dollar has fallen below Rs. 300 for the first time since June 8, 2023.

According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the selling rate of a US dollar was recorded at Rs. 299.35 while the current buying rate stands at Rs. 290.30.

What they import ? Cars ? There are a lot in Hambatota port. What for? People don't have enough to eat daily and with what money do they import such cars? Have to find out who is behind these import car Where come from these money that they paid to import car. Here is and example of cars but there are.more things as petrol , eggs, rice.......

Something to do with RW, surely ? Only he could strengthen the rupee (at least, that's what he said before the election). I am still waiting to magically run out of LP gas for the same reason.

Wish the CBSL maintains a stringent fiscal policy framework going forward without any Political interference. I reckon the change of Leadership was needed, and they need to be given a chance so an attempt can be made to correct lot of shortcomings from the past, slowly and steadily..........

I recon you are clueless about the reality. Demand for dollar is less because importers are not importing because they are not sure of the changes in policies.

Not true. The LKR dropped to 293.46 in April 2024 and averaged mid to upper 290's until June 2024. Then dropping again from 300 to the mid and upper 290's from July to mid September. If you need to fact check, the currency's historic performance, the chart is on google.

Sad that some does not have a simple idea of demand and supply. There is no pressure on the USD . The reserves have gone up to USD 6bn
