Germany grants SL € 13mn for development projects

The German government has provided Sri Lanka with a grant of 13 million euros to implement five development projects this year, as agreed during the talks when President Maithripala Sirisena visited Germany this February.

The Government of Germany granted 13 million euros to Sri Lanka to implement five development projects during this year,” a Finance Ministry communiqué said. It added that four of the projects are the Wilpattu National Park and its Buffer Zone Management Project, Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises Development Project, Social Integration Project and Transformation Facilitation Project. “Another project titled ‘Project of Quality Infrastructure Improvement in Sri Lanka’ has already been implemented under a budgetary allocation of one million euros,” the ministry statement added.

Treasury Secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga and German Ambassador Dr. Jurgen Morhard were the signatories to the grant yesterday Both the German government and the German development bank DEG have been assisting Sri Lanka with uplifting living standards, small and medium-scale enterprise development and technical assistance on development projects.
