Setting the benchmark for sustainable aluminium manufacturing in Sri Lanka and worldwide, Alumex PLC launched a comprehensive environmental, social and governance (ESG) roadmap titled ‘Elevate’ recently, at the Hayleys head office.

Adopting a formal ESG framework underscores Alumex’s vision of creating long-term value for stakeholders and contributing to a sustainable future.

Commenting on the significant occasion, Alumex PLC Managing Director Pramuk Dediwela said, “ESG factors are crucial in the construction industry, across the value chain, within our manufacturing footprint and in the eyes of our discerning clients around the world. We are proud to launch our ESG framework as a roadmap for responsible, ethical and sustainable business operations at Alumex PLC. We believe this will raise the bar and set new benchmarks for sustainable business practices in the aluminum manufacturing sector. Elevate will provide us with a blueprint for driving sustainability, innovation and accountability.”

“Environmentally, sustainable practices reduce carbon emissions and manage resources effectively, enhancing compliance and operational efficiency. Socially, prioritising employee safety, fair labour practices and community engagement ensures that we are able to unlock innovation and strengthen resilience, which contribute towards business growth. Strong governance ensures transparency and ethical operations, mitigating risks and boosting investor confidence,” he elaborated further.

Alumex serves a diverse portfolio of international customers, many of whom are increasingly conscious of their environmental impact. The new roadmap envisions enhancing customer experience, with an objective to raise overall customer satisfaction scores to 85 percent, ensuring that stakeholders remain at the heart of the company’s operational strategies.

In response to the growing need for a circular economy, Alumex is committed to reducing its carbon emissions, which aligns with global sustainability standards and benefits Sri Lanka by contributing to a lower overall carbon rating. The roadmap sets clear targets for the future, including a 25 percent reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity, aiming to contribute to global efforts against climate change while optimising energy use in operations.
Moreover, Alumex has aligned with global frameworks like the International Aluminium Institute and Aluminium Stewardship Initiative. The company is focused on decarbonising its aluminium value chain by transitioning to cleaner energy sources and optimising production processes, while also promoting resource efficiency through effective recycling practices. The roadmap underscores the company’s commitment to responsible sourcing, with a goal of achieving 50 percent social and environmental screening of suppliers to ensure sustainable and ethical practices throughout the supply chain.

Furthermore, Alumex also prioritises biodiversity preservation and engages in habitat restoration, along with setting a 30 percent reduction target in water consumption intensity, reflecting a commitment to preserving water resources and minimising environmental impact. Transparency and ethical practices are fundamental to Alumex’s operations, with a commitment to open communication and stakeholder accountability.

The company fosters an inclusive workplace that values diversity and empowers employees through development programmes. Alumex also supports the community by providing educational resources and scholarships, ensuring healthcare access for employees and their families and promoting economic empowerment for small businesses.
As the flagship entity of the Hayleys group’s construction materials sector, Alumex PLC is poised to lead the charge in shaping the future of the aluminum industry in Sri Lanka, driving progress through innovation and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
