British High Commission launches trade mission for women-led SMEs

The British High Commission in Colombo in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Export Development Board (EDB) has organised a five-day trade mission aimed at promoting Sri Lankan women-led businesses in the UK market.

The programme, funded by the UK government, focuses on empowering local female entrepreneurs in the textiles, apparel and processed agri-food sectors by facilitating networking opportunities with potential buyers in the United Kingdom.

Accordingly, the British High Commission has invited applications from women-led businesses specialising in clothing, fashion, and packaged agricultural food industries to take the initiative.

Interested businesses are encouraged to apply through the form links published on the High Commission’s social media platforms. Applications are to be submitted by August 31, 2024.

The trade mission is scheduled to take place from December 2 to 6, 2024, with planned visits to key locations across Sri Lanka, including Colombo, Kurunegala, and Jaffna.

The mission is also part of the global SheTrades Commonwealth programme, which aims to enhance economic growth and job creation in Commonwealth countries by increasing the participation of women-owned businesses in international trade.
