The secondary market experienced buying interest during the day, backed by thin volumes and limited activity ahead of the presidential election, which is scheduled to be held today.
The liquid tenures 2026, 2027 and 2028, enticed most trades during the day namely, 01.06.26 and 01.08.26 traded between the range of 11.90 percent-12.10 percent.
Moreover, 15.02.28 traded between the ranges of 13.67 percent-13.60 percent, 01.07.28 traded at 13.70 percent, 15.06.29 traded within the range of 13.89 percent-13.85 percent. The Central Bank plans to hold its Rs.120.0 billion weekly T-bill auction on September 25, 2024, with Rs.70.0 billion scheduled to be raised from the 91-day maturities, Rs.40.0 billion from the 182-day maturities and Rs.10.0 billion from the 364-day maturities.
On the external side, the Sri Lankan rupee slightly depreciated against the US dollar during the day, recording at Rs.304.6 compared to Rs.303.9, which was recorded during the previous day. The Sri Lankan rupee depreciated amongst most of the major currencies such as GBP, EUR, JPY, CNY and AUD during the day.
