A small primary school in the Galle District has received a new classroom, its first new building in 89 years, with the support of Ceylinco Life.
Sri Lanka’s life insurance leader donated Rs 1.6 million towards the material costs to construct a classroom for the Bogaha Kanishta Vidyalaya in Elpitiya, a school that has not seen any building construction since 1935.
Coincidentally, this was the 88th classroom building built by Ceylinco Life under a long-running corporate social responsibility initiative that has benefitted schools across Sri Lanka.
The new building will be used by 40 students of Grade 3, who had previously had their classes outdoors or in the dilapidated school hall due to the non-availability of a building. The Bogaha Kanishta Vidyalaya has a student population of 195.
Every classroom built by Ceylinco Life over the years continues to be monitored and maintained by the Company to ensure it serves many generations of students.
Thanking Ceylinco Life for its generosity, the Principal of the school D. N. Warapitiya said it had maintained the quality of education despite the challenges, enabling students to achieve commendable results. “As the Principal, I am thrilled that these young students now have a classroom of their own, where they can continue their studies without interruptions, thanks to Ceylinco Life,”she said.
