Cinnamon Grand celebrates twin success at Tourism Awards 2024

Cinnamon Grand Colombo was awarded with the Best Five-Star Hotel in the city along with Nuga Gama as the Most Authentic Sri Lankan Cuisine Restaurant at Sri Lanka Tourism Awards 2024, held recently.

Cinnamon Colombo Hotels Area Vice President and Cinnamon Grand General Manager Kamal Munasinghe speaking to the media at the hotel’s newly transformed Cheers pub attributed the achievements to the unwavering commitment and continuous excellence of the staff and said that as a hotel, it has once again proved to the world that it is the Best Five-Star Hotel in the city, bringing the best of Sri Lanka to the world with style and elegance. 

“Being a home-grown Sri Lankan brand, we are happy and proud to close the hotel’s 19th year in style with these two prestigious awards.”   

Commenting on the hotel’s management and overall contribution of the team, Munasinghe said there is a lot of effort put into achieving these kinds of awards. “We have a very good team and they are behind everything we have done in the Colombo sector, specially at Cinnamon Grand.” 

The industry veteran also said their hotel is like an institution to the city, noting that it has been in existence as a venue for the last 50 years from the times of Hotel Lanka Oberoi, with most patrons in Colombo having some kind of emotional bond with the hotel. “We hope to continue this great connection.” 

He emphasised that it was the local community that helped the hotel to survive during the worst times of Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry and expressed gratitude for their support.

In the area of destination marketing, the hotel’s Marketing and Communications Director Virosh Perera said the hotel has hosted key events and invested significantly in this regard over the years and looks forward to back future initiatives too. 

“With Colombo flourishing into a cosmopolitan destination and a hub for global events, Cinnamon Grand Colombo is perfectly positioned to meet the rising demands,” he added. 

Cinnamon Grand and Nuga Gama have previously won the same awards in 2018, the last time the Sri Lanka Tourism Awards were held.
