The newly introduced cutting-edge German technology will improve the therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) process with the recent acquisition of a Fresenius COM.TEC machine at the Sri Lanka Army Hospital, Narahenpita. 

The transfusion medicine is revolutionized by the invention of this technique. As much as 10 kinds of therapeutic procedures can be done efficiently such as therapeutic plasma exchange, therapeutic red cell exchange, without exposing the risk of infections. 

Further, it is a sensible tool to collect almost all desired blood components saving the time of blood bank personnel otherwise spending for component separation. This system uses pre-packaged disposable sets of sterile bags, tubing and centrifugal devices specially designed for the process. 

Single- or dual-vein access techniques can be used. The time taken varies with the procedure adopted. Depending on the procedure and device used, process time varies. COM.TEC (Fresenius Kabi Germany) is an example of continuous
