Generation Alpha, a youth-focused empowerment project led by Miuli Kalubowila, won the Creative Entrepreneurs for Social Change competition, which concluded on Friday at the Sri Lanka Design Festival 2024.
Organized by Lanka Angel Network in partnership with AOD, the event celebrated innovative solutions to social challenges from five exceptional finalists.
Kalubowila’s Generation Alpha programme offers a six-month membership aimed at empowering young people to explore their passions, develop skills, and create impactful careers, start-ups, or social ventures. The initiative provides structured mentorship, hands-on learning, and a supportive community to guide youth toward real-world achievements.
As the competition winner, Kalubowila will receive personalized mentorship from Lanka Angel Network to help bring her project closer to full implementation.
Other finalists included Mahesha Kariyapperuma’s Ayuthura and White Shadow Art, which merges art and sustainability to highlight Sri Lankan identity while promoting eco-consciousness, and AGC Innovate Pvt Ltd by Pankaja Uyangoda, which focuses on reducing plastic waste and improving infrastructure to support a greener Sri Lanka.
The finalists were assessed on creativity, feasibility, social impact, and scalability, with the competition underscoring the potential for design and innovation to address some of Sri Lanka’s most urgent social issues.
