Harcourts International School to empower future biz leaders with Moroccan-themed Souq

Harcourts International School (HIS) is set to host its inaugural Harcourtian Souq come December in an effort to provide its students a platform to step into the world of entrepreneurship.

The Moroccan-themed Souq, to be held on 7 December 2024 at the HIS campus in Dehiwala (from 9 am to 7pm), will allow young Harcourtians to showcase their talents, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit to the public.

The concept of the Souq was born out of the commitment of HIS to provide students with a hands-on learning experience, bridging classroom theory with practical application.

For many of the participating young entrepreneurs, the Souq will be their first endeavor into managing their own business ideas.

Students are fully involved in the planning process - from conceptualizing and managing their stalls to designing promotional materials. They will also play key roles bringing the event’s theme to life, all of which will provide them with experience in customer engagement and event management.

The Harcourtian Souq, organised by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), is being spearheaded its President Sumaiya Anver Ajmal, and  Zaif Wahid, the Chief Organiser.

The event will set the stage for students to learn essential entrepreneurial skills, including financial management, leadership, innovation, marketing, critical thinking, and budgeting.

“The Souq aligns with our vision to foster entrepreneurship by providing students with a realistic platform to engage with established entrepreneurs and apply their learning in the real world.

“It is an opportunity for our students to become independent thinkers and learners, developing skills that are vital for their future success,” said HIS PTA Secretary Wardha Zaif.

The event will feature a diverse array of stalls offering are a variety of items including; clothing, accessories, toys, cosmetics, imported sweets, household items, and a variety of food and beverages.

Established local entrepreneurs from brands such as Maxwell Healthcare, Macmart, Bairaha, Chaiwala Colombo, Bling & Blush, Boutique at Horton Place, Dr. Rashel, Maggi, Acropol, Slush Bar, Simply Play, and more are lending their support to the event as vendors, further enriching the experience for students. These collaborations are aimed at offering students the chance to network with industry leaders and gain insights into the realities of running a successful business.

With all stalls fully booked, the event is generating a significant buzz among students, parents, and the wider community.

The Harcourtian Souq is made possible with the support of key sponsors. Platinum sponsors Data Travel, Exchange Data, and SKC Electronics have played a pivotal role in bringing this event to life, while Gold sponsor Dr. Paw has also contributed significantly to its success. Silver sponsor EAM Maliban Textiles Mahiyanganaya (Pvt) Ltd and Bronze sponsors Hill Lanka, Mitsu, and The Manhattan Fish Market have further strengthened the initiative.
