Hayleys Fabric PLC has become the first Sri Lankan company to be featured as a case study on the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) website.
The global shift towards sustainability in textiles is part of a fundamental transformation urgently required across all resource-intensive industries.
“We are dedicated to pioneering eco-friendly innovations and responsible production methods that set new benchmarks for the industry and contribute to a sustainable future. Hayleys Fabric’s recognition on the GOTS platform is a testament to our unwavering commitment to these responsible practices and environmental stewardship,” Hayleys Fabric PLC Managing Director and CEO Rohan Goonetilleke said.
Hayleys Fabric, which produces over three million metres of fabric monthly and has an annual turnover of US $ 72 million, has held the GOTS certification since 2014. The company is noted for its sustainable practices, including the development of eco-friendly dyes and creation of a biodiversity wetland park adjacent to its facility.

GOTS is the leading standard for organic textiles, requiring a minimum of 70 percent certified organic fibres and strict controls on chemical use. Hayleys Fabric’s adherence to these standards underscores its commitment to sustainability in the textile industry.
The company also emphasises a sustainable supply chain with rigorous compliance screening for its raw material suppliers. It operates 100 percent women-only knitting plant and is certified under ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety, reflecting its focus on fair labour practices and safe working conditions.
